Assistive Devices Program (ADP) Assessments in
Burlington, ON

As we age, maintaining mobility and independence becomes increasingly important. Thankfully, in Ontario, there is a program that helps older adults get the support they need to stay active and mobile – the Assistive Devices Program (ADP).
This program provides funding for a range of mobility devices, including wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters.
Natalie Lehto, a Registered Physiotherapist at Fit For Life Physiotherapy in Burlington, Ontario is authorized by ADP to complete assessments for walkers and can help you through the process of applying for funding.
What is the Assistive Devices Program?
The Assistive Devices Program (ADP) is an Ontario government initiative designed to help residents with disabilities by covering a portion of the costs of mobility aids, including devices that assist with walking, sitting, or transferring.
The funding helps make mobility aids more affordable for those who need them most, ensuring that older adults and individuals with disabilities can maintain their independence and quality of life.
Who Qualifies for ADP Funding?
To be eligible for ADP funding for mobility devices in Ontario, you must meet the following criteria:
- ADP funding is available for Ontarians aged 19 and older.
- You must be a resident of Ontario and covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).
- ADP funding is provided based on medical necessity. A healthcare professional, such as a physiotherapist, will need to assess your mobility needs and recommend a specific device.
- While ADP does not have a strict income requirement, the program is designed to help those who need financial assistance in obtaining mobility devices. However, the amount covered by ADP may vary depending on the device and the specific circumstances.
At Fit For Life Physiotherapy in Burlington, Physiotherapist Natalie Lehto is authorized for approval of wheeled walkers.
You may qualify if:
- You have not already purchased a walker that you hope will be reimbursed by ADP
- You do not already have an ADP covered walker within the last 5 years
- You have mobility restrictions requiring the use of a walker in the home for longer than 6 months
ADP provides partial funding for mobility devices. The funding amount typically covers:
- 75% of the cost of approved mobility devices, such as wheelchairs, scooters, and walkers.
- The remaining 25% is the responsibility of the individual or their insurance provider.
You do not qualify, if you:
- already qualify for or are receiving financial support from the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board for the same mobility aid
- are a Group “A” veteran and already qualify for or are receiving financial support from Veterans Affairs Canada for the same mobility aid

How long does ADP funding take? |
Once the paperwork is submitted, ADP funding approval typically takes 4 to 6 weeks. Your vendor can provide more specific timelines and let you know if any temporary solutions are available while you wait.

Once your mobility assessment is complete, the vendor you choose will:
- Review your ADP assessment paperwork
- Explain the walker options that are appropriate for you
- Discuss pricing and how ADP funding applies
- Submit the necessary documentation to ADP on your behalf
- Go over your options for taking the walker home (e.g., immediate pickup, delivery, or wait times)
The vendor will guide you through the purchasing process and answer any questions about eligibility and funding.
